Hello world! Andrea here – thirty-something and currently residing in the center of the universe, otherwise known as New York City. I live at home, with six spoiled, fuzzy, feline brats who I love and adore, and would probably get fur all over your clothes before demanding head scratches (except Amy, who I suspect would spend the entire time hiding under the bed.) Because cat.
I attend Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Service where I am working towards my Masters in Social Work, with the ultimate goal of counseling people with people with eating disorders, specifically adolescents. I have my Bachelor’s degree in Psych-Bio, which I received with the intention of fulfilling my childhood dream of becoming a marine biologist, training whales and dolphins and studying them in the wild. While that plan hasn’t come to fruition, it’s still one of my passions.
When I’m not working or crying on the inside over graduate school, I love to write. Journaling is the only thing that has kept me sane, though I’ve been lax about it as of late. I love to listen to music – Jimmy Eat World, Sara Bareilles, and Mumford and Sons are some of my favorites, but I’ll listen to almost anything. I also read a lot, and spend far too much time obsessing over fictional characters. Fanfiction and Livejournal introduced me some of the kindest people I know, some of whom I am still incredibly close to today, including my lovely brain twin.
Both of us were diagnosed with Binge Eating Disorder within days of each other, and – as Laura said – for all that our journeys are incredibly similar (we don’t call each other Brain Twins for nothing) they are also remarkably different. I’ve been wanting to start a blog for eating disorder recovery for a long time. Before I started treatment, I didn’t have anywhere to turn and we’re hoping this blog can be the support that we never had. I’m ridiculously proud we’ve shot this out into the intarwebs, and be it support or understanding or something else, I hope you all get something out of it, too.
Special shout out to my brother, who came up with the name of this blog!
